The numbers of confirm novel coronavirus cases in India rose to 2,069 on Thursday, according to Union Health Ministry data. Out of these, 1,860 are active cases, while 155 people have recovered or discharged from the hospital, while 53 people lost their lives to the highly contagious Covid-19 disease. One person migrated from the country.
In a data updated at 18.00 hours on Friday, 235 new coronavirus cases were reported. Out of these, 67 fresh cases emerged in the national capital.
Maharashtra is the most-affected state with 335 cases and 13 deaths. To combat the spread, Maharashtra government has declared 30 government hospitals of the state as Covid-19 hospitals with the availability of total of 2,305 beds.
Kerala is the second most affected Indian state with 265 cases and two deaths, followed by Tamil Nadu with 234 cases and one death.
Till Friday evening, Maharashtra had reported the most deaths (19) so far, followed by Gujarat (7), Karnataka (3) Madhya Pradesh (6), Punjab (4), Telangana (3), West Bengal (3), Delhi (4), Jammu and Kashmir (2), Uttar Pradesh (2) and Kerala (2). Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Himachal Pradesh have reported one death each.
The number of cases in Delhi has gone up to 219 and two have died.
As of Wednesday, Raman R Gangakhedkar, the Head of Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said 47,951 tests for COVID-19 have been conducted in the country till date.
There are 126 labs in the ICMR network. "The testing capacity utilisation is about 38 per cent as of now," he said.
Some places were identified as hotspots across the country. These are Dilshad Garden and Nizamuddin in Delhi, Noida and Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Bhilwara in Rajasthan, Ahmedabad, Kasargod and Pathanamthitta in Kerala, Mumbai and Pune. The identification of cases at these places will help ramp up the testing process.
Addressing the Tabligihi meet, Punya Salila Srivastava, joint secretary, Home Ministry said, "We have identified 9,000 Tabligihi Jamat workers and their contacts, and placed them in quarantine. Out of these, 1306 are foreigners and the rest are Indians."

At present, there are close to 940,000 people around the world who have been infected by the virus, and more than 47,000 people have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University. However, 195,000 have also recovered from the virus.
